Electric Vehicles

The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy was considered alongside the consultation findings at Cabinet on 11 July 2023. The Strategy was approved by Cabinet and further information about this meeting can be found online:

Cabinet meeting - Tuesday, 11th July 2023

Background

The Council has declared a climate emergency and is working to achieve a 'net zero carbon' borough by 2045. Transitioning to a net zero transport system is an essential part of achieving this. To do so, we all need to use motorised travel less, substantially increase our use of public transport and, where car travel is unavoidable, only use fully zero-emission vehicles by 2050. Additionally, national government has plans to end the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030, and sales of electric vehicles are already rising rapidly across our borough and the country at large.

We know that the availability of public charge point infrastructure is a real barrier holding people back from transitioning to an electric vehicle. This strategy sets out a forecast of the scale of anticipated demand for charge points over the next few years and the actions the council and partners can take to support the roll-out of this new infrastructure.

If you have an interest in electric vehicles, we would like to hear what you think.
