Greenbank School - permanently close the school’s residential provision

Background

The Governing Body of Greenbank School and the Council are proposing to permanently close the school’s residential provision, at Greenbank Lane, Hartford, Northwich, Cheshire, CW8 1LD

The proposal comes at the request of the governing body who have concluded that it will no longer be capable of operating the residential provision within its delegated budget.

The Council agrees with the Governing Body and recognises the financial and operational challenges in relation to the long-term sustainability of the provision.

The consultation

Following a period of informal consultation held by the school, the Council are proceeding to a period of notice and representation which will run from 14 July 2026 to midnight 11 August 2026. It is an opportunity for people and organisations to express their views about the proposal and to ensure these are taken into account in the decision-making.

The 4 week consultation period will run from the 14 July 2026 to midnight 11 August 2026.

You can give your views on the proposal by either:

or;

  • Submit your view in writing to: Education Infrastructure, Floor 1 The Portal, Wellington Road, Ellesmere Port. CH65 0BA

These will need to be completed and returned to us by the closing date midnight of the 11 August 2026.

What happens next?

All feedback received during the formal consultation period will be considered as part of the final decision. The final decision will be made by the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People.
