Key Standard 2 – Providing a Break

One of the simplest things that carers need is a break from their caring responsibilities.  However this can often be difficult because of the needs of the person they are caring for. 

If, following a carers assessment a break is identified as part of our support to you we can arrange this for you – it could mean a few hours, a day or even longer.  There are lots of ways that people can enjoy a break too – from enrolling on a course to having a pamper session.  We will discuss with you what you want and tailor the nature of the break to suit you.

We work closely with a range of providers, both internal Council services, and with third sector agencies. Carers' services are funded through the Carers' Grant and are listed below.

Alzheimers Society Range of services provided for carers of Alzheimers clients including breaks, luncheon clubs, support groups, training and awareness for carers of sufferers.
Princess Royal Trust Cheshire Carers Centre Range of services including carers training, advice and information courses, outreach worker's drop-in for all carers. Also, carers fund of up to £250 per carer per year to support the carer e.g. driving lessons, gym membership, household purchases etc.  The Centre runs a voucher scheme for carers to apply to centre for a pamper/beauty treatment in partnership with the local FE Colleges.
The Council - Social Care and Health Range of services including support to carers of adults and children with learning or physical disabilities, carers of mentally ill service users, dementia, crisis response breaks, training and information, recruitment of carers to support unpaid carers, services in the carer's home etc.
Crossroads Provides carers with a break either in the cared-for persons home or at a meeting place, support groups e.g. parents of  aspergers syndrome sufferers. Crossroads also run specific projects for young carers.
Frodsham Rainbow Provides breaks to the carers of adults with learning disability, through a weekly respite group.
Making Space Range of breaks for carers of Mental Health clients, pamper sessions, training and support groups as well as family support.
St Luke's Central Cheshire Hospice Complimentary therapy at the Hospice for carers of terminally ill people.
St John Ambulance Provides a break for young carers ranging from 4 to 8 hours.
Mencap Support workers for young people moving into Adult Services from Childrens transition - family support and breaks to carers.
