Cheshire Trader Register – Information for Businesses

How do I register my business?

Registering your business with The Trader Register is free. If your business is based in Cheshire West and Chester please contact Cheshire West and Chester Trading Standards Business Support on 01244 973708 or e-mail the businessadvice@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk. If your business is based in Cheshire East please contact Cheshire East Trading Standards on 01260 375500 or email the businessadvice@cheshireeast.gov.uk.

You will be required to complete an application form and provide references. Before being accepted your application form and references will be subject to checks carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Trading Standards.

What is the purpose of the Register?

The aim of the Register is to benefit consumers and businesses and to give consumers access to reliable, good and competent traders. The register is intended for businesses who are involved in maintenance, repair or modernisation of peoples homes and gardens.

Businesses on the Register will provide a commitment to comply with Trading Standards legislation and agree to meet the requirements of the Code of Practice - See Terms and Conditions.

The Register is aimed at older and vulnerable adults who often find it difficult to find reliable businesses but it will be available to all residents in Cheshire through the website.

What happens if I have a dispute with a consumer?

If you have a dispute with a consumer you can contact Business Support for free, impartial, practical advice.

Nothing in this scheme prevents either party from seeking redress though legal action in the Courts but we will endeavour to mediate to resolve disputes.

Where will the list be held?

Consumers will be able to view the list on our website - Trader Register or can telephone Age Concern Cheshire on 01606 881668 or 01625 612958.

What other support do you provide?

Every year  we help Cheshire businesses cut through the red tape so they are able to run successful compliant businesses. We help businesses already established in Cheshire and those who are considering starting a  new venture in the county. We can help businesses by providing advice, guidance and information on their responsibilities under current Trading Standards legislation.
