What is Council Tax?
Council Tax is an important part of the financing of Local
Government and other local services.
The money raised by Council Tax is used to make up the
difference between the money we get from central Government and the
money we need to deliver all of the services needed by you.
Council Tax was brought into effect on 1 April 1993 and is
governed by legislation.
Council tax is an annual tax based on the value of your property
and assumes that two people live in the property. The bill is
not increased if more than two people live in the household, but if
only one lives there, the bill is reduced by 25%
