Further information is available on our booking your marriage page.

Marriage in a Register Office

We have two ceremony rooms at each of our Register Offices situated in Chester and Northwich. The marriage rooms are available from Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.

You can book a register office marriage up to 12 months in advance.  As soon as you have decided on the preferred date of your ceremony you should  contact us to make a provisional booking.

We will hold your provisional booking for a month to allow you to give the legal notices of marriage.

Further information is available on our marriage booking page.

Religious Ceremonies

A religious ceremony may take place at a church or chapel of the Church of England or Church of Wales, or in any other place of worship formally registered for marriages by the Registrar General.

Church of England or Wales

A marriage within the Church of England or Wales does not generally involve the Register Office. For enquiries regarding fees, please contact the Vicar or Incumbent of the church.

Other churches or religious buildings

For weddings in any other church or religious building, you should seek permission from the Minister or governing body before making other arrangements.

Once you have made these arrangements, please contact your local Register Office to give Notice of Marriage (this is a legal requirement).

Usually there is a person appointed at the church or building who can register your marriage. If not, a Registrar from the area in which the venue is located will have to attend. You should therefore make contact with the local Registrar.
