Useful Information for Council Leaseholders of Flats and Maisonettes

General Information for Council Leaseholders

When you were discussing buying your flat with your solicitor you will have been advised that the flat was being sold to you on a lease.

Your lease explains in detail the responsibilities and obligations of both the leaseholder (you) and your landlord (Cheshire West and Chester Council).

The information provided here summarises your obligations as a leaseholder and the obligations of the Council, as your landlord.  Your lease also explains who is responsible for repairing and maintaining both your flat and its block.

As a leaseholder you have to pay the landlord for your share of the cost of any services provided under the lease.  These costs will be recharged to you in the form of service charges.

Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council, as your landlord, is obliged to provide certain services, undertake repairs and maintenance and calculate the service charges for your property.
