Cheshire West and Chester Council is committed to providing
support and assistance to those in housing need, or those who are
threatened with homelessness.
There are three Housing Solutions teams
located across the borough (Chester, Ellesmere Port and
Northwich). In Chester, the Housing Advice and homelessness
service is contracted out to Chester and District Housing Trust
(CDHT), who carry out the function on behalf of the Council.
In the other two locations the service is delivered directly by the
Council.
The vision of the Housing Solutions service
is that “every homeless presentation is
preventable”.
Staff work with households to either enable
them to remain in their own home, or to assist them with planned
and timely moves into more suitable and sustainable accommodation
by offering a range of housing options, and where appropriate,
referrals to support organisations. Advice is provided
regardless of priority and intentionality, and is tailored towards
the individual needs of the client.
Cheshire West and Chester Housing
Solutions also provide an enhanced range of housing options
which enable us to respond to the wider housing needs of Cheshire
West and Cheshire residents in an effort to tackle the root causes
of homelessness.
Your Housing Options
The Council has developed a wide range of
housing options to try to assist you, with our key priority being
to prevent homelessness wherever possible and to offer a range of
alternatives for you to consider. The options available
should help you to either remain in your present accommodation or
if this is not possible, to help you to move to alternative
accommodation in a planned way.
By taking appropriate and prompt action, your
homelessness may be avoided altogether. Please do not
wait until the last moment as early contact is likely to increase
your options.

Homelessness
What to do if you are homeless
If, despite all efforts to prevent
homelessness, you do become homeless, then we will open a
homelessness application. You will continue to have access to
a designated Housing Solutions Adviser who will endeavour to find
you suitable alternative accommodation. A full investigation
will be made into your homelessness under the Housing Act 1996 (as
amended by the Homelessness Act 2002).
