Finding Private Rented Accommodation
The Council produces a weekly list of available private rented properties across the Cheshire West and Chester area. The list can be emailed or posted to you, or you can collect a list from one of the Council’s One Stop shops.
Private rented accommodation can also be found in:-
- Local newspapers
- Websites
- The Council’s list of accredited landlords
- Student unions or colleges
- Letting agents
Paying your rent
If you are living in private rented accommodation and are having trouble paying your rent, you should contact your landlord, (or letting agent), immediately, before the situation gets worse. However, if this has not been successful then let us know and we can contact your landlord on your behalf. Often we can work with you and your landlord to sort things out. Also, if you are claiming Housing Benefit we can liaise with them to try to resolve any issues.
Your rights as a tenant
If you are experiencing problems in your private rented property e.g. disrepair, notice that has been served, harrassment from the landlord, and have not been successful in sorting the problem out, the Housing Solutions Team can help to negotiate with the landlord on your behalf.
It is important that you are clear about your rights as a private sector tenant, particularly if your landlord has already served you with a notice. If you make an appointment with a Housing Solutions Adviser we can explain your rights, and check that you are not being illegally harrassed or evicted.
A range of leaflets explaining your rights as a Private Sector Tenant (PDF, 118KB) are available from any of the Council’s offices or One Stop Shops, or alternatively please contact your local Housing Solutions Team for advice.
