Access

Due to the historic nature of St Michael's church there is, unfortunately, no access for wheelchair users. However, if notified in advance it will be possible to make other arrangements to see material that we hold. If you can not visit us in person, we will be pleased to carry out research on your behalf through the Enquiry Service.

Community History and Heritage Across Chester District

We aim to help the people of Chester District to explore their heritage in ways which benefit the environment, the economy and way of life of their communities.

  • We develop community history projects throughout Chester District
  • We present Chester's history through leaflets, trails and exhibitions.
  • We're also the booking office for the What's On events leaflet

Are you looking for Chester City's archives?

In March 2000,  all the original documents held at the Town Hall were transferred to Cheshire and Chester Archives and Local Studies (the County Council's Record Office). The aim behind this joint agreement was that all the archives relating to the City and the County would be cared for and made available to the public in the one place.

Both councils amalgamated in 2009.
