Grosvenor Museum Society

Join the Grosvenor Museum Society and help to provide vital support for Chester's Grosvenor Museum.  Members of the Society enjoy a full and varied programme of events, including lectures and visits

The Society has given more than £68,000 in grant-aid since its establishment in 1981.  It has helped the Museum to purchase more than 170 objects, including paintings, watercolours, drawings, silver, ceramics, furniture, clocks, tokens, fossils and geological specimens.  The Society has also supported other projects such as a public address system, wrought iron gates, the publication of a catalogue, restoration and picture framing.  The Society's support benefits every one of the Museum's visitors.

The Grosvenor Museum houses internationally important Roman collections, a pre-eminent collection of silver, a beautiful art gallery, a popular natural history gallery and charming period rooms.  The Museum also runs a lively and diverse programme of exhibitions and events and a very successful education service.

The Museum opened in 1886, co-founded by the Architectural, Archaeological and Historic Society of Chester, and the Chester Society of Natural Science, Literature and Art, supported by the 1st Duke of Westminster and a major public appeal.  Chester City Council assumed full responsibility for the building and collections in 1938, but the personal support of local people remains essential for the future of the Museum.

Your Museum needs your support- please join the Grosvenor Museum Society today.
