In most cases it is possible to take photographs free of charge
using a digital camera in the Cheshire Record Office searchroom.
Please consult staff on the day for permission.
We regret that we will not be able to offer refunds if we have been
given incorrect or insufficient information.
If you do not know exactly what you require, please e-mail the record
office or make use of our research service.
What is the Research Service?
If you cannot visit the Record Office in person, our
professional Researcher can undertake genealogical and historical
research on your behalf.
Original records, microform and printed sources available in the
Cheshire Record Office can all be searched. Sources include parish,
diocesan, census, estate and business records as well as newspapers
and electoral registers.

Can I still order by post?
Please contact the Cheshire Record Office, Duke Street, Chester,
CH1 1RL (Tel 01244 972574) to obtain order forms.
Please state how much you would be willing to spend on your order
in total. If you would like to mark your cheque ‘not to exceed’ a
certain amount and leave the box blank we can complete the amount
after the order has been processed.
Can I buy books and CD-Roms online?
Our new on-line bookshop offers a wide range of books,
pamphlets, CD-Roms on a variety of topics. Along with census
indexes and numerous books on the history of Cheshire we also have
a guide to Cheshire parish registers and a guide to tracing your
Cheshire armed forces ancestor. Well worth a look!

Our charges can

and cheques must be made payable to Cheshire West and
