Chester Zoo, an already hugely popular and widely visited tourist attraction, is beginning the motions to become one of the largest wildlife attractions in the world. The £225 million project will provide a major increase in job creation and job security, assisting in a positive regional economic impact. Prof Gordon McGregor Reid, Director General of Chester Zoo, said: "Natural Vision will offer a fun, family-friendly, adventurous, yet educational window on the world of conservation."
Heart of Africa will become the UK's only unique domed ecosystem that allows visitors a one of a kind experience through a jungle canopy. The African rainforest-themed sanctuary will house Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Okapi, amphibians, reptiles, fishes, invertebrates and a variety of tropical birds, all free to roam around the abundant vegetation. An interactive water ride will enhance the experience along with themed retail and dining facilities.
Plans also include a 90 bed hotel for overnight stays as there is so much to see and do. A Conservation College will continue their dedication to conservation work and there will even be the development of a Marina beside the Union Shropshire Canal. 2018 should see the zoo transformed into the largest conservation, animal and leisure attraction of its kind in Europe.
