City by 2027: Scenario Two

A weekend break in Chester

John and his wife Marie, their daughter Grace and her partner Adrian and their daughter Esme all live in Chester. They are very proud of their city. Not only its rich historical past but its bright modern future.

1. John and Marie where both teachers and wanted to return to the City after retiring. They have bought a house in the Common hall Artisans quarter. Their daughter, Grace and her partner, Adrian live in the same street. They love living in the heart of the city.

2. Grace and Adrian’s daughter, Esme has recently completed her Law degree at Chester University and is now on an internship with a law firm in the business quarter.

3. The all regularly meet up on a Sunday morning and enjoy the pop up market which is practically on there door step.

4. They decide to walk along the river. Reaching it is so much easier now the roundabout has gone.

5. They stop to see the hydroelectric weir in action. It provides the power for the Illuminated Walls spectacular which has become a major attraction on the visitors’ circuit.

6. Esme leaves them at the Roman gardens. She’s meeting friends who are going to see some art house cinema in Northgate. The crowd round the Amphitheatre and Dee House archeopark is busy today, but since the southern edge of the ring road has been down graded its easy to walk this route back into town.

7. The rest of the family carry on to the Barrs Square. Now the underpasses are no longer in use this is a great place for coffee and people watching.

8. They chat to a German family who have spent the weekend in Chester. They are just returning their hired bicycles. They are from Munster and say how amazed they are at how the cities history is so well preserved but at the same time feels so modern. They’ll definitely becoming back.
