What is Rhino Mania?

Rhino Mania is a unique, world-class art event that's designed to have huge public appeal… and it’s on its way. Over 10 weeks from early July to mid September 2010, it will create a trail through the city of Chester. From the river to the Business Park, out to the Zoo and into the neighbourhoods; the rhinos will encourage thousands of people to follow the stampede. This is a real opportunity to provide community and education projects, highlighting a range of subjects from climate change to environmental issues and animal extinction.

Who is behind Rhino Mania?

Chester Renaissance is working in partnership with Wild in Art to produce this event, along with the generous support of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Bank of America, Chester Zoo and enthusiastic sponsorship of local companies and businesses.

What will Rhino Mania deliver?

• Up to 70 specially designed rhino sculptures will showcase Chester’s heritage, architecture, regeneration and art scene
• The sculptures will be designed and created by regional and local professional artists, community groups and schools
• Rhino Mania will animate Chester’s streets, parks and open spaces
• It’s all about partnerships and aims to bring the business and creative sectors together with local communities to celebrate both the city’s character and its cultural identity
• The trail will attract thousands of people and encourage residents to be ‘visitors in their own city’. It will highlight gems that are perhaps unseen by visitors and residents, as well as areas of development and regeneration
• Each rhino will be sold at a charity auction afterwards, bringing key fundraising opportunities
• Rhino Mania will make a great contribution to the economic, cultural and social life of the city.
• Rhino Mania will increase awareness of the connection between Chester as a city and Chester Zoo
