Les has been a Town Crier since September 2001. Now in his ninth year, he has won numerous awards and appeared on TV a number of times. His biggest claim to fame is appearing on Ready Steady Cook with the Alnwick Town Crier, John Stevens, which he won.
Les has won The Barlick Bellman Award and came third in the 2007 European Championships. He has won Best Ambassador a number of times in Blackpool and twice in Banbury and Huddersfield.
He has held his own competitions which included the Loyal Company British Championships 2003.
"I do like entering competitions", said Les. "But winning is not the be all and end all. My purpose as Town Crier is to promote my town and I do that to the best of my ability."
One of the pinnacles of his career was when Les was asked to proclaim a legal document to rededicate Halifax Parish Church to a minster which was televised at the same time.
