Martin Wood

Martin has been a town crier for the past 25 years representing Shrewsbury for all of that time.

Although he takes his responsibilities seriously he understands that the general public like to be entertained and that is what he does. He is recognised as the world’s tallest town crier, standing at 7ft 2ins, and has been called, amongst other things, a hirsute giant.

During his 25 years in all the competitions he has attended, he has never been placed outside of the top 10 and has won the Wales and Marches championship on 5 occasions and was the winner of the Dutch National Championships in 1997.

In 1991 he won the Canadian Peoples Champion and in 2007 he won the Peoples Choice category at the Vale Royal competition.
