Key accomplishments for Chester Renaissance

Organisational

  • Recruited an external private sector advisory board and a new Renaissance board.
  • Built a strong Renaissance team with the introduction of new project managers, project officer and events coordinator.
  • Represent the organisation on various key boards including the Local Strategic Partnership Board.

 

Branding/Public Relations

  • Working in partnership with key agencies to determine a brand position for the city.
  • Promote Chester and raise city and organisation's visibility by hosting international delegations and speaking at various regional and national conferences.
  • Successfully secured private and public sector support and sponsorship to deliver two major events in the city in 2010, with anticipated economic return of £10M-£12M+.
    Currently negotiating Chester’s inclusion in the Shanghai Expo 2010.
  • Funded Chester Renaissance public art display Giant on a Bike, which won the 2009 Best individual feature prize in Britain in Bloom from the Royal Horticulture Society.
  • Developed new website/marketing and exhibition materials.

 

Development

  • Determining the overall city strategy/vision document in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Visit Chester and Cheshire and other partners – led by Renaissance for submission to the Agency.
  • Building partnerships with key private-sector developers to assess future opportunities within the city.
  • Commissioned feasibility study to identify Strategic sites for a Commercial Business District and then secured additional funding to master plan the outcome of that study.
  • Installed city's first three footfall counters to enable clear evidence to be collated demonstrating the impact of the developments planned.
  • Awaiting final decision on a multi-million-pound funding proposal for new cathedral entrance and visitor centre after moving successfully through the first two rounds.
  • Commissioned the delivery of a public realm guide.

 

Project Finance

  • Secured multi-million-pound public/private sector investment commitment to Chester Station through successful bidding process.
  • Secured funding through bid processes to deliver Masterplans for Cathedral Quarter, Castle Area, and Rows Area.
  • Secured funding for and commissioned improvement plan for amphitheatre and surrounding areas.
  • Managed bidding process that secured multi-million-pound funding for first two phases of public-realm improvements.
  • Secured £1.2m funding from Interreg to restore and enhance the towers as a key visitor and economic driver.

 

Project Management

  • Working with the zoo and transport operators to implement new transport service from Easter 2010 to improve connectivity between the city and the zoo.
  • Implemented a greening and dressing campaign throughout the city centre – working with landlords/retailers etc to improve the image of vacant units.
  • Managed the walls restoration programme and vegetation removal
    Delivered phase I of interim improvement measures in the Northgate area and currently working on a programme for delivery of phase II – funded through Renaissance.
