Chester's popular Roman Gardens will be closed to the public from Monday, 16 January until early April as the next phase of work starts.
Following the installation of new mosaics last year, the landscaping of the Roman Gardens will commence.
Managed by Chester Renaissance and Cheshire West and Chester Council, this will include the Roman architectural fragments relocated and regrouped to allow better interpretation, removal of overgrown shrub areas to be replaced with grass, improved planting of beds with plants of Roman origin, topiary low hedging, seasonally planted urns and a new access gate from Albion Street.
There are also proposals for a complimentary lighting scheme enhancing the views of the City Walls and improving the footpath lighting.
Councillor Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, said: "Although it is regrettable that the gardens will have to be closed for a period of time, this is essential to allow the landscaping work to take place.
"The Roman Gardens are part of Chester's Conservation Area and following the improvement work I am sure they will enhance the experience for residents and visitors significantly."
