Hryre - photography competition

'Hryre', the word for 'ruin' in Old English, is a new artwork by artist Nayan Kulkarni, designed to explore the medieval heritage of Chester, and of St John's Church in particular. It draws on the research of the Mapping Medieval Chester project, and is part of a new Discover Medieval Chester project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

The artwork has been commissioned by Cheshire West and Chester Council's Arts and Festivals team, in partnership with Museum Service, Street Lighting and Chester Renaissance. The current artwork is temporary and will be replaced by the permanent work in early 2012.

In response to the positive feedback that the new artwork has generated the artist, Nayan Kulkarni, would like to invite anyone with a camera and access to the internet to enter photographs of the artwork into a competition. For a limited period he will change the way that the lights are arranged on the ruins to facilitate photographers.
