Habitats and Hillforts Festival - marks confirmation of a one year extension to the project

Habitats and Hillforts celebrated the end of its 3rd year in the form of a festival from the 8th - 10th September 2011. 

Various activities were held during the festival from willow weaving at Burwardsley, guided walks from Helsby to Woodhouse, visiting an archaeological excavation at Eddisbury and dry stone walling near Kelsall.

“The festival marks the news of a one year extension to the project by the Heritage Lottery Fund which will mean more opportunities for all until September 2012” said Councillor Herbert Manley, Executive Member for Prosperity.

“The project is also launching a new charitable trust  - the ‘Sandstone Ridge Trust’ which will be taking on legacy projects set up by Habitats and Hillforts.

“The festival linked in with Heritage Open Days led by English Heritage and culminated with an Iron Age Open Day at Burwardsley. “
