Habitats and Hillforts training dry stone wall
Dry stone walling has been continuing at Castleside Farm, Kelsall with the end of the wall now firmly in the sights of the volunteers.
Landowner, Mr. Hardy has been kept busy supplying additional stone, packets of biscuits and teacakes and weather allowing even the odd ice lolly. So far about 16 volunteer days have been spent on the wall learning new skills, making new friends and of course putting the world to rights on various subjects.
Their hard work to date has seen the restoration so far of 104 metres of dry stone wall, an impressive 6.5 metres per day. Without the hard work of volunteers and due to the very high costs of restoring dry stone walls it is fair to say the wall would likely never be restored otherwise. The hard work of the volunteers has ensured such an important landscape feature will survive for many decades into the future.
