Council celebrates Dignity in Care Action Day

Events at day and respite centres across the Borough

2 February 2012

Cheshire West and Chester Council supported National Dignity in Care Action Day with events held in care settings around the Borough.

The events, held at day and respite care centres, took place at Davenham Day Centre, Dane Walk, School Way and Firdale in Northwich, Meadow Court, Frodsham, Dover Drive and the Coronation Centre in Ellesmere Port and the Mulberry Centre, Chester.

It was an opportunity for the Council’s Social Care Services to show how people who use their service are treated with dignity and respect.

The events involved everything from flower arranging - the dahlia represents dignity - to badge making, awareness parties, a themed cake sale with cake names associated with dignity, pledges attached to a wishing tree and a performance by the Mulberry Centre’s Mulberry Players.

The Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Brenda Dowding, said: “Dignity Action Day is about protecting the interests of those using our care services and their carers, and reminds all of us that dignity is everybody’s right and must be at the heart of everything we do.

“It was wonderful to see service users and staff taking action and working together to highlight and promote this important campaign and helping to ensure that dignity is a reality for everyone.

“Although 1 February was the designated day of action, dignity is about more than just one day. These events encouraged people to make an ongoing commitment to upholding dignity in care at all times.”

Dignity Action Day is a national initiative led by the Dignity in Care Campaign and its key partners to bring staff and members of the public together to make a difference.
