Looking for exciting architecture, inspirational people and
secret gems
24 January 2012
Do you love Ellesmere Port? Are you a budding
photographer with an eye for interesting and quirky shots?
The Ellesmere Port Development Board has launched a photographic
competition to celebrate all that’s great in the town and is
inviting photographers of all ages and abilities to get
involved.
Looking for images of exciting architecture, inspirational
people and secret gems, the competition is designed to highlight
the many fantastic views the town has to offer, through the eyes of
the people who live and visit here.
Chairman of the Development Board, Robert Mee, said: “Ellesmere
Port is a town that is changing, with many new developments
including the iconic new college, but we are not always the first
to highlight our successes.
“We want everyone to be able to see the town through the eyes of
the people who call Ellesmere Port home, as well as visitors to the
area who may have their favourite view, location or
place.
“Hopefully each person’s view of Ellesmere Port will be
different so the competition is open to all abilities and ages,
residents and visitors alike and the judges will be looking for
those photographs that represent the very best of Ellesmere
Port.”
Competitors will be able to submit entries under six
categories:
- Art and architecture
- People and Places (please do not submit faces without
permission)
- Industry, commerce and business
- Hidden gems
- Landscape, townscape and recreation
- Special award for under 18 photography.
Winners of each of the six categories will receive a £50 cash
prize, with other locally-sourced prizes also on offer including a
family ticket to the Blue Planet Aquarium along with other
amenities and attractions across the town.
Local member Councillor Justin Madders, said: “The competition
is a fantastic way for us to see exactly what local people love
about the town they live and work in, from a piece of interesting
architecture down to smaller things like historical plaques or
beautiful flower beds.
“The board is also hoping to work with local schools to see what
our youngest residents see within their hometown.
“This is a real opportunity for us to promote positive images of
the town. It’s all about what you as an individual love about
Ellesmere Port and I look forward to seeing the range of entries we
hope to receive.”
Images received will be used by the Council and Development
Board to promote and publicise the town and its offerings.
Photographs can be submitted via the Council’s Facebook
page or by emailing photographs to ecommunications@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
Entries are now being received, with a closing date of midnight
on 11 May, 2012. Entrants under the age of 12 must have
parental consent.
