A number of conservation areas in Cheshire West and Chester have conservation area appraisals written about them.  The appraisals seek to define what is significant about the character of the area, by looking at features such as settlement pattern, building materials and boundary treatments.  The conservation area appraisal is then used by the planning department and others when assessing development proposals for the area.
