Supporting People
The supporting people programme commissions housing related support services through a partnership of local government, health, probation, other providers.
This support helps vulnerable people to live more independently.
Services funded through the supporting people programme include domestic violence refuges, homeless hostels, sheltered housing and floating support services.
Who can access supporting people services?
You can access the services if you are:
- A young person at risk,
- Homeless,
- At risk of domestic violence,
- Suffering from mental health issues,
- A teenage parent,
- An older person,
- A refugee,
- Someone with a physical or learning disability.
What kind of support is available
There are three types of Supporting People service:
- Housing based - where the support is linked to the accommodation, for example Sheltered Housing, Women’s Refuges and Homeless Hostels.
- Floating support - where the support is linked to the individual.
- Home Improvement Agency and Handy person
A housing related support task could include the following:
- Help with setting up and maintaining a home.
- Help with managing money and other independent living skills.
- Support in a sheltered housing scheme.
- Help with claiming benefits and completing forms.
- Help, advice and support to prevent homelessness.
- Provision of an emergency alarm call and monitoring
service.
