Applying and information about Apprenticeships

What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are a mixture of work-based training and education, which include the following basic elements:

There are two types of Apprenticeship: Foundation and Advanced.

The different level of attainment between the Foundation and Advanced Apprenticeships are reflected by the competencies required and qualifications gained.

The council has experience of providing quality training placements for apprentices. We also use this programme as a recruitment tool and many of our apprentices are recruited into permanent positions during or following their training programme.

Training is funded by the National Apprenticeship Service and managed by Total People, who will contact you shortly after you start your work placement.

They will produce an individual training plan for you.

How long does an Apprenticeship last?

Although there is no set time to complete an apprenticeship as they vary widely in size and content, the length of time taken will depend on the ability of the individual apprentice. Initially you will be given a 12 month temporary contract (conditions apply).

Placements are rotated every 6 months and permanent employment can be achieved at any time during your training period. Usually your training will continue until your training plan is completed.

How much will I get paid?

Getting paid while you learn might sound too good to be true, but as an apprentice with the council you really do get the best of both worlds. If you have the dedication to succeed in the world of work and you’re not afraid to commit yourself to a combination of training and study then an apprenticeship may be for you.

From the current rate of pay for apprenticeships is £105.00 per week.
