Your visit
Stage 1: Booking your visit
Contact Lorna Kernahan on 01244 972120 or visit@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk to agree sessions and a date.
Stage 2: The confirmation pack
After you have booked you should receive a confirmation pack containing your booking confirmation and information for teachers. Please study these carefully and check that the times of arrival and of departure are correct. If you have any queries about this get in touch as soon as possible. The sooner we know the easier it will be to sort out!
Payment
Sessions are charged at £2 per pupil/group member per hour.
If you have pre-booked a workshop and you are a Cheshire West and Chester school you will need to raise an I-trade order. The instructions on how to do this will be sent with your confirmation letter. If you are a non Cheshire West and Chester school you will be invoiced after your visit and will only be charged for the number of children who attend.
If you have pre-booked a Roman Soldier tour you will be sent a separate invoice in the post before you visit. Please either send a cheque as payment before you come, or bring it on the day.
Pre-visit information
In your confirmation pack you will receive worksheets for the galleries. Please remember to photocopy these before you visit and bring any pencils and clipboards with you. This session is teacher-led so it’s important that you look at the worksheet and have an idea about the questions asked.
Ratios
We recommend that you bring one adult per six children. Adults go free so you can bring as many as you like.
Lunches
Please remember to bring lunches in disposable bags. If you do bring rucksacks please be aware that these will not fit in our lunch crates and you will have to keep them with you all day.
Special educational needs
It is important to let us know if you have any children with mobility issues, or other special educational needs so we can tailor our sessions accordingly. Please discuss with Lorna on booking.
Risk assessments
We encourage group leaders to do a pre-visit. Generic risk assessments are available below.
- Grosvenor Museum Risk Assessment (PDF, 58KB)
- Roman Workshop Risk Assessment (PDF, 75KB)

Coaches
The coaches can drop you off and pick you up outside the museum and there is usually parking available at the little Little Roodee car park just down the road from the museum. Please ensure the coach company is aware that the day starts at 10.30 and finishes at 2.30.
