Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse (formerly the Salt Museum)
Discover a hidden heritage...
Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse is full of displays and tales of the history and industry of West Cheshire. The stories are told through films, reconstructions, models and displays of intriguing artefacts relating to market towns, transport, archaeology, the famous Cheshire salt industry and the museum building's former history.
The museum is housed within the old Northwich Union Workhouse building. A special display in the former workhouse schoolroom explores life for the paupers, the dismal diet and the harsh work routine.
There is an exciting changing exhibition programme, along with special events, workshops and activities. Follow the links below for more information:

How to get here
The museum is situated on the A533 about half a mile south of Northwich town centre. It is well signed (follow the brown signs) from the A556 and is approximately a 30 minute drive from Chester and 40 minutes from Liverpool and Manchester. If you are approaching from the town centre, make sure you indicate and turn right immediately after passing underneath the railway viaduct. We have a large free car-park which can accommodate coach parties.
Research
Students and local history researchers are welcome to make use of a wide range of resource material by appointment. The museum library contains books and articles on the local history of the area, the salt industry in Cheshire and elsewhere in the UK.
