Hedges maintenance

Hedge maintenance

We carry out seasonal maintenance on over 30 miles of hedges that we own.

Hedges are pruned once a year between September and March to avoid disturbing wildlife during the bird nesting season.

In some cases, to ensure the safety of pedestrians and road users, we may need to perform maintenance during the summer months. When this happens, we carefully assess the area beforehand to ensure that wildlife is protected.

All the hedges we own are marked on our interactive map. By selecting a hedge, you can easily find out when we plan to carry out pruning.

All our operations are programmed in advance, and wherever possible, we aim to stick to these schedules. This ensures that we work as efficiently as possible to provide the best service.

If you think that a hedge that we own has not been cut, you can let us know.

Privately owned hedges

Most hedges are privately owned and are on property boundaries. It is the landowner’s responsibility to maintain these hedges. If there is an area where this hasn't happened, please contact the landowner and ask them to take action.

If the landowner does not do this and within a reasonable timescale, then you can report it to us. We will take the necessary action to request the landowner to take action and if the event this doesn’t happen, we have the authority to cut back and charge. This can take six months to action.
