Community transport

Throughout Cheshire West and Chester, including its rural areas, the Council promotes many different community and voluntary transport schemes These include services for people with disabilities. All vehicles are equipped with lifts for wheelchair users.

PlusBus in Chester and Ellesmere Port and Neston

PlusBus is a door-to-door minibus service for those who have mobility difficulties and cannot use public transport. The service is run by ECT in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Chester Area Community Car Scheme

This scheme is operated in the Chester and Malpas area by Cheshire Community Action.

This service is available to people who are without private transport or who are unable to access public transport to make their journey. Cheshire Community Action can help you with your journey to appointments i.e dental, opticians, doctors, also social activities such as visiting friends or relatives. With a group of car owners, each volunteering a little of their time, they are able to help you, your neighbours and friends with transport. There is a charge of 32p per mile and £2 minimum charge payable to the driver.

Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Transport Limited

Our aim is to provide affordable transport for the community including those with mobility problems.

We provide various transport services such as:

Our services rely on volunteers to operate and for this reason please give us at least 48 hours (two days) advanced notice.

All individuals and organisations must be registered with us prior to using the service.

Dial a Ride

The Dial a Ride scheme is a door to door transport scheme for people who find using public transport difficult. All the minibuses used are wheelchair accessible. Passengers have to pre-register and bookings are taken the day before the passenger wishes to travel. The service operates in the Northwich, Winsford and Frodsham areas.

To use the Dial a Ride you must complete a membership form and become a registered user, to receive a membership form or for general enquiries about the service please ring 01606 784100.

Northwich Dial a Ride – operates Tuesday to Saturday inclusive, 08.45am – 16.30pm. Bookings are taken the day before you wish to travel between 9am and 11am. The booking line number is: 01606 784100.

Winsford Dial a Ride  - operates Monday to Friday. 08.45am - 16.30pm. Bookings are taken the day before you wish to travel between 13.00pm and 15.00pm. The booking line number is 01606 784100.

Frodsham Dial a Ride  - operates Monday 09.15am to 14.00pm from Frodsham to Northwich and Thursday 09.15am and 16.00pm around the Frodsham area. Bookings are taken the day before you wish to travel between 9am and 11am. The booking line number is 01606 784100.

Rural Rider

This transport scheme operates in the rural areas around Northwich and Winsford, including Oakmere, Wincham, Plumley, Anderton and Delamere. The service operates Monday to Friday, 08.45am – 16.30pm. If you would like a timetable or further information please ring 01606 784100. The booking line is open from 10.00am - 14.00pm and bookings are taken the day before you wish to travel. Anyone living in the rural areas can use this service.

Women’s Safe Transport

This is an evening pre-bookable door to door transport service operating in and around the Northwich area. Bookings are taken between 13.30pm and 15.30pm. This service only operates on a Wednesday and Thursday evening and is open to any female.

Community Car Scheme

Using volunteer drivers, the scheme takes passengers in the Northwich area to appointments.  We ask for two or three days notice and a small charge will apply. For more information telephone 01606 784100 (between 09.00am and 11.00am).

Respite schemes

Held Tuesday evenings in Winsford, Thursday evenings in Barnton and alternative Saturday afternoons in Frodsham and Tarporley. The scheme is respite for elderly people who have Dementia or similar conditions, a mental illness or a learning difficulty and also for their carers.

Companionship scheme

The aim of the scheme is to enable adults with special needs or those undergoing a difficult period in their lives to enjoy a fuller and more active social life.
