Theatre in Education
Theatre in Education [TIE] engages students through the emotions rather than purely information and facts. The Cheshire West and Chester Council Road Safety Unit uses professional groups to deliver particular messages through school groups.
Subjects covered in the past include speed, alcohol and drugs, pedestrian safety and driver distractions. TIE productions often include a post performance discussion with the group to draw out and re-enforce the messages.
Provision of TIE depends upon available funding. For the latest information contact: roadsafety@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
Lower Secondary School
A series of three presentations with progression from Year 8 through to Year 10.
The course aim is to help young people to stay safe on the road, as a pedestrian, cyclist or passenger. This is achieved through the following objectives:
- To raise awareness of the need to concentrate on the road.
- To raise awareness of the consequences of being involved in a crash.
- To raise awareness of how using a mobile phone reduces the ability to concentrate on the road.
- To understand the potential personal consequences to young people when drivers speed.
- To raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving through a better understanding of the effects of drinking and driving on young drivers and their passengers.
- To improve knowledge of the consequences to oneself and other passengers of not wearing a seatbelt.
- To recognise personal responsibility for staying safe on the road.
