Background
There are two main types of care homes; residential
homes and homes with specialist nursing care.
- Residential homes provide accommodation, meals and personal
care for older people, people with disabilities, or people who are
unable to manage at home, for whatever reason.
- Nursing homes provide full board accommodation, personal care
and qualified nursing care. A nursing home has to have a
professionally qualified nurse on duty 24 hours per day.
You have two options should you or the person you care
for wish to move to a home:
- You can make your own arrangements with the home.
- You can ask Social Services to help. This will require an
assessment of need. This is a discussion with you to find out how
best to support you with the problems you are having. We will look
at your needs and decide whether you are eligible to move to a care
home.
