Our Purpose
The Council’s Carers Manager
provides the strategic leadership for the Carers Agenda in West
Cheshire, and is the Local Authority representative at a Regional
and National level. The Manager is also responsible for managing
the Carers Grant allocation from Central Government.
We are committed to supporting carers. A carer is someone who
looks after a relative, friend or neighbour who is ill or has a
disability and would not be able to live in the community without
their help. The care they provide is unpaid.
If you are a carer and caring is affecting your life then a
Carer's
Assessment (PDF 136 kb) could help you.

Impact Assessment
Around 30,000 people in West Cheshire provide unpaid care to
family members, friends or neighbours, often with little support or
training. Their role often goes unnoticed. In many cases, the
caring role takes its toll and the physical and mental health of
carers often suffers. Cheshire West and Chester's Joint Carers’
Strategy aims to improve support for carers and to recognise the
crucial role that they play in delivering care to vulnerable
people. We want to treat carers as true partners and to give them
services which they are telling us they need.
Carers have told us they want flexible and responsive services
where they are given a real choice. They want to real breaks from
caring safe in the knowledge that the person they care for is being
well looked after. As we move to personalising services for carers
how these 'breaks' are identified and accessed will require
innovation and listening closely to carers. For us to be effective
in supporting carers and recognising the diversity of our
population we will be striving to work in effective partnership
with NHS Western Cheshire and other key agencies. This Impact
Assessment is an important step in ensuring that our support of
carers is inclusive, non-discriminatory and identifies groups that
require further engagement.
