Beeston Railway Station Feasibility Study - Final Report
In May 2006, a study was commissioned by the Council on behalf
of the Parishes of Alpraham, Beeston, Bulkeley and Ridley, Bunbury,
Burwardsley, Peckforton, Spurstow, Tiverton and Tilstone Fearnall
and Tarporley.
Consultants Scott Wilson Railways were appointed to carry out
the study.
They concluded that it would not be
economically viable to re-open the station.
Their report remains available on this page for information.
The study
The brief for the consultants was to carry out a feasibility
study (including an assessment of costs and benefits) to establish
demand for improved rail links which would result from the
reopening of Beeston Railway Station.
The original Beeston Castle and Tarpoley Station lies on the
Chester to Crewe railway line and was closed down in April
1966.
The objectives of the study
were:
- To examine the possibility of reopening Beeston Railway
- To assess the implications of increased patronage of the
Chester - Crewe railway line.
- To assess the potential for modal shift (car to rail) for
journeys between the rural settlements along the A49 and A51 to
Chester, Crewe and beyond.
- To assess the economic and commercial benefits of the
proposal.
- To examine community impacts.
The consultants presented their findings
on 6 September 2006.
