Travelcard

Changes to Travelcard from Monday 7th June 2010

A new ITSO standard Stored Value Travelcard has been introduced. This card is available for use on GHA services in Cheshire, as well as those operated by D&G Coaches, Vale of Llangollen Travel and Arriva’s Chester, Rhyl and Wrexham depots.

Who this affects

Only those customers currently using Travelcards on GHA services will be affected by the changes. Arriva's Chester, Rhyl and Wrexham depots have been using the new ITSO standard since November 2009.  D&G coaches and Vale of Llangollen are new operators to the scheme.

This change will inconvenience a small number of customers, but there will be significant long term benefits.

What the Changes will Mean

  • GHA will no longer be able to accept the current Stored value Travelcards
  • GHA will continue to accept weekly and monthly Travelcards, but the customer will have to show their valid top-up receipt to the driver.
  • GHA will not be able to top up weekly and monthly Travelcards

Options for GHA customers using Stored Value Travelcard

  • Replace ‘old’ Stored Value Travelcard with a new ‘ITSO’ one – if the card has a remaining balance send it to us at FREEPOST LV7179, Travelcard, Rivacre Business Centre, Mill Lane, Ellesmere Port CH66 3BR and we will transfer the balance from the old card to a new one. If there is no remaining balance telephone 01244 973353 to request a new card.
  • Continue to use it, knowing it will not be valid on GHA’s services
  • Have an ‘old’ Stored Value Travelcard plus a new ‘ITSO Stored Value Travelcard’. Some customers might find this advantageous.
  • Send current Travelcard to us for a refund of any remaining balance.

Options for GHA customers using Weekly and Monthly Zone Travelcards

  • The only change is that they won’t be able to be topped up on GHA buses.
  • GHA will accept cards topped up with other operators providing the top up receipt is shown to the driver.

Cheshire Travelcard

The easy way to travel around Chester, Whitchurch and East Flintshire. Use the Travelcard instead of cash to pay for bus travel - and you will receive special discounts too.Travelcard: Blue

Travelcard is more convenient - you'll benefit from faster boarding times because there's no need to have the correct change for the fare.

Uses the latest electronic smartcard technology. Simply look for the Travelcard logo on the bus.

Step on board and show your Travelcard. Each bus in the scheme is equipped with a high-tech card reader that can communicate with a computer chip inside your plastic smartcard and it is as easy as that.

Travelcard offers the following choices:

Zone Passes: A weekly or monthly zone pass gives you unlimited travel (as many trips as you like) within a defined boundary - any time, any day, any route, any journey purpose and at a set price!

You can buy or renew your pass from the driver, and use it on any bus displaying the Travelcard logo.

Current Zone Charges are as follows:

Zone 1 - Weekly pass £12.00                Zone 2 - Weekly pass £13.00

Stored Value:  You can store value on your card in multiples of £5 to a maximum of £50, by having your card topped up on any bus in the scheme.

You can then use this value to pay for bus fares in the normal way. Do away with the need to carry cash or to find the right money each time you board the bus. What's more each time you use your card to travel you will receive a discount on the price of your ticket (certain special ticket offers may not be available for purchase with your Travelcard - check with your individual operator for details).

Each time you travel by bus,the value of your ticket is deducted from the value stored on the card - you get a handy ticket receipt that shows you how much money you have left on your card.

Stored value Travelcards can be used on any bus between Chester and Whitchurch where you see the Travelcard logo displayed.
