Cheshire West and Chester Council's School Travel
Team is working towards making the environment safer so that
children can walk, cycle or use public transport to and from school
as opposed to being carried as the sole passenger in the car.
Walking is still the most popular way of travelling to and from
school. Last year 65% of Cheshire West's children travelled by
sustainable modes on the school journey, either walking, cycling,
school buses or car sharing, whilst 35% travelled by car. However,
over the past 20 years the use of cars has increased on the school
run and accounts for approximately 20% of peak hour traffic.
