Responsible drinking zone

Ellesmere Port, Winsford, Rural West and Rural East

This consultation is now closed.

Cheshire West and Chester Council can apply for a Responsible Drinking Zone for areas in and around Ellesmere Port, Winsford and Rural West. (This is officially known as Designated Public Place Order or DPPO).

A Responsible Drinking Zone gives Police officers, and the Council's Community Safety Wardens, the ability to ask a person to stop drinking alcohol in a public place, where they have reason to believe that alcohol related nuisance and annoyance is likely to occur. Uniformed officers can also confiscate alcohol.

It is not a criminal offence to drink alcohol within this designated area. An offence is only committed if a person refuses to obey a uniformed officer's request to stop drinking. Cheshire West and Chester Council is consulting on whether this is a power you would like your council to adopt. There are many ways you can get involved in the consultation and let us know your views:

Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council having been divided into five Area Partnership Boards (APB’s) and the Council having previously designated two of the APB’S namely Chester APB and Northwich Rural North APB, the Council now intends to designate the three remaining APB’s namely: Ellesmere Port APB, Rural West APB and Winsford and Rural East APB as designated places pursuant to the Criminal justice and Police Act 2012 (as amended by the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006).

Take Notice that the effect of the Order will be to create a borough wide designated public place.
