Removal of Christmas wreaths

Spring maintenance programme

4 February 2010

As part of the ongoing maintenance of the cemeteries managed by Cheshire West and Chester Council, grave owners and visitors are advised that all remaining Christmas wreaths will be removed and disposed of from graves starting on Monday, 22 February

Wreaths will be removed from the grounds of:

  • Chester Crematorium
  • Blacon Cemetery, Chester
  • Overleigh Cemetery, Handbridge
  • Overpool Cemetery, Ellesmere Port
  • Neston Cemetery, Neston
  • Wharton Cemetery, Winsford.

Grave owners and visitors who would like to keep their wreaths are advised to retrieve them before Monday, 22 February 2010.

Julie Proctor, Team Leader for the Cemeteries and Crematorium Service, stated: "There are many beautiful wreaths brought to the cemeteries at Christmas time, but unfortunately, by February we do have to start removing them to allow us to commence our spring maintenance programme.

"Notices have been placed in all of our cemeteries to let people know that this will happen and to give grave owners and visitors plenty of time to collect their wreaths if they wish."

If anyone has any query about the removal of wreaths they should contact the cemeteries and crematorium service on, tel: 01244 972428 or 01244 372428.
