Standards Committee
Members of the Standards Committee are appointed by full
council.
The committee has 14 members and must be chaired by an
independent member.
The Elected Members on the Committee are:

- Councillor Kay Loch
- Councillor Pat Lott
- Councillor Helen Weltman
The independent members on the Committee are:
- Rod Bowman
- Ann Hinde
- Alan Latham
- Maurice McBride
- Jack McGarva
- Donald McFarlane
The independent members on the Committee are:
- Geoffrey Hope-Terry
- Ted Lush
- Roger Parkin
Independent Members
Independent members are members of the public who have been
appointed to the Standards Committee. An independent member should
be able to reflect the views and expectations of local people
regarding the behaviour of Members.
The presence of independent members on the Standards Committee
helps increase public confidence and gives a clear signal to the
community that the Committee is fair, open and transparent.
To be an independent member a person must not:
- Within the period of five years immediately preceding the date
of the appointment been a member or officer of Cheshire West and
Chester;
- Be a relative or close friend of a member or officer of the
Cheshire West and Chester; and
- Be a member or officer of any other council, police authority
or fire authority.
- Independent Members are appointed every four years. The next
appointments are likely to be advertised in 2012. All vacancies for
independent members of the Standards Committee will be advertised
in local newspapers.
Parish Representatives
Parish Representatives are appointed in conjunction with
Cheshire Association of Local Councils (ChALC).
Any person who is a Parish Councillor can apply to be a Parish
Representative of the Standards Committee.
Vacancies will be advertised through ChALC.
Parish Representatives are usually appointed for 4 years. The next
appointments are likely to take place in 2012. All vacancies will
be advertised.
