The Council is offering a series of manual handling, health and safety and working with food training courses for owners of businesses or individuals working in catering.
The correct training for food handlers is an essential part of food safety. The law requires that all food handlers are trained, instructed or supervised to a level in line with their job. Food poisoning, foodborne illness and allergic reactions can be disastrous for a business. Training in food safety will assist businesses in preventing such occurrences. The qualification is suitable for those who handle high risk or open food in businesses where food is stored, prepared or cooked.
In addition consumers have become increasingly aware of the effects of a poor diet and businesses are keen to understand the links between diet and health to meet the changing customer demands. The healthier foods and special diets qualification will provide training in this important area. A fee is payable and in return successful candidates will receive a nationally recognised vocational qualification from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
