Education Welfare Service
From January 2018 the Education Welfare Service will only deliver on the Statutory Duties of the Local Authority in relation of school attendance or otherwise. The service will move from Integrated Early Support into the Education Directorate.
Changes will include Education Welfare Officers no longer undertaking casework. Statutory duties will include the following:
- identification of children missing education (CME)
- mproving attendance via investigation/enforcement process
- school Attendance OrdersContribute to the code of conduct for Fixed Penalty Notices
- assessment of Fixed Penalty Warning requestsAssessment and Guidance for section 444 parental prosecution
- child performance/employment regulation (child licensing)Right to inspect registers
