Dealing with debt and money worries
If you are struggling with your weekly or monthly payments, you may need to seek advice from a Money Adviser. They can help you prioritize creditors and attempt to negotiate a better repayment deal.
Your creditors are divided into two categories ‘Priority Creditors’ and ‘Non-Priority Creditors’.
Priority creditors are your essential living expenses:
- Mortgage payments
- Rent payments
- Council Tax
- Utilities
- Secured loans
- Fines
Non-Priority Creditors are:
- Unsecured loans
- Credit agreements (seek advice to type of agreement).
- Mail order
- Catalogues
- Credit cards
