Conservation areas and conservation area appraisals
Local planning authorities are obliged to designate as conservation areas any parts of their own area that are of special architectural or historic interest, the character and appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. There are 96 conservation areas across the borough.
Please note: we are currently undertaking a three-year project producing Statements of Special Interest and new mapping for those conservation areas where it is currently lacking.
