Audit and Governance Committee: Appointment of an Independent Member

Could you take on an important role to help ensure the Council operates to high standards of corporate governance in the way it conducts its business?

The Council, recently named runner-up in the Council of the Year Awards, prides itself on delivering excellent services and value for money to its communities. The Council recognises that this needs to be underpinned by good governance arrangements and has an Audit and Governance Committee to provide independent assurance on the adequacy of the risk management framework, the internal control environment and the integrity of the financial reporting and annual governance processes.

The Council is now looking to appoint an independent member to join the Committee to contribute to this important role by bringing additional knowledge and expertise. Ideally, this should be someone with financial / auditing experience or practical experience of managing risk / implementing good governance arrangements in the public or private sector.

The Committee will meet approximately six times in a financial year and the successful candidate will be expected to serve for four years, with effect from May 2022. Independent members are entitled to be reimbursed for expenses but do not receive any allowance or pay.

The Council has a commitment to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all parts of the borough’s community. However, to ensure independence there are restrictions on who can apply - you must not be a member or officer of the Council or be a relative or close friend of a member or officer.

Applications are invited up to the deadline of 9 January 2022. Interviews will be held week commencing 17/24 January 2022.
