Our approach

It is clear from the Cheshire West and Chester Joint Strategic Needs Assesment that the impact of drug misuse on health and community safety in Cheshire West and Chester is significant and steps are needed to change our relationship with drugs. Our approach will focus on prevention and early intervention and there is clear evidence that in order to tackle drug misuse, we need to take a consistent and multi-faceted approach. The sections below outline the actions that we need to take locally to reduce the harm caused by drug misuse. The recommendations are drawn from the National Drug Strategy and the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and actions are grouped under the following headings:

  1. Reducing demand
  2. Restricting supply
  3. Recovery focused treatment services

Moving forwards, this strategy will be supported by a detailed action plan outlining responsible leads and timescales.
