Sustainability commission of inquiry

Cheshire West and Chester Council along with a number of its key partners wanted to gain a better understanding of what it would mean to undertake a carbon neutral approach to the delivery of services and activities within the Borough. A Commission of Inquiry was established to examine the issues and implications of this fundamental approach, building on existing work and investigating future opportunities.

A summary of the Commission’s first year’s operation is now available to view. Here you can find an overview of the evidence presented by experts, the key issues discussed and the 41 draft recommendations of the Commission.

The following four themes were considered by the Commission:

1.Renewable energy and energy efficiency (PDF, 49 KB)
2.Housing and development (PDF, 89KB)
3.Resource management and waste (PDF, 75KB)
4.Transport and accessibility (PDF, 54 KB)

In order to understand the baseline of carbon emissions and what actions are needed to reduce these emissions, The University of Chester were commissioned to undertake a carbon footprint analysis.
