Land at Freshmeadow Lane, Helsby

In June 2024, the “Buried” podcast on BBC Sounds reported that Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) were found in a soil sample taken from private land at the end of Freshmeadow Lane, Helsby. Following discussions, the landowner promptly took appropriate steps to restrict public access to the land while investigations took place.

We continue to work collaboratively with the landowner and partner agencies to ensure the matter is addressed fully and in line with all relevant environmental obligations. The landowner’s investigation is continuing to plan and with any necessary remediation identified, likely to commence Summer 2026.
