Average read time: 3 minutes

Consultation starts today (30 September) on the new Design Code for west Cheshire.

Design Codes are a collection of design principles helping residents define what good development and high-quality public streets and spaces look like in their area.

Cheshire West and Chester Council carried out extensive engagement to provide the scope, vision and principles of the Design Code that are now being consulted on.

This included two rounds of engagement with the community, with in person events, interviews and workshops.

Councillor Christine Warner, Cabinet Member for Homes and Planning said:

A design code sets out exactly what is expected of developers in a clear and visual manner. It raises the bar for new development and supports our ambition to be champions of good design, both of new places and in the retrofit of existing streets.

Whilst this consultation is aimed at industry professionals that will be using the code such as Architects, Highway Engineers, Planning Consultants, we are keen to hear from residents and community groups if they feel the code will improve their neighbourhoods and to ensure it covers the right design issues.

The consultation will include the full Design Code along with a summary document. The Council is seeking views on parts of the Design Code, the overall structure and principles, whether anything is missing and if it will promote places that reflect the character and identity of the borough.

The online survey will be open until Tuesday 24 November.
