A556 Shurlach Road in Lostock Gralam, emergency roadworks
Following a significant road collapse on the A556 Shurlach Road in Lostock Gralam there is a lane closure in place to keep everyone safe whilst investigations are carried out.
An overnight closure (towards Manchester) on Friday night (1 August) is required to install temporary concrete barriers to protect the works area, with the central barrier being removed to enable excavation work.
The works will require a full emergency road closure (towards Chester) and a lane closure (eastbound towards Manchester) due to the size and complexities of the road collapse.
The A556 will be closed between the A559 Manchester Road and A530 King Street roundabout in a Westbound direction. The diversion will be via A559 Manchester Road, Northwich Town Centre and Kingsmead. These works are programmed to start on Monday (4 August) and it is expected that the road will need to remain closed for two weeks.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said:
We appreciate that this closure will cause significant disruption to residents, businesses, and commuters. The closure period will be reviewed following the excavation to understand the scale of the issue.
